Developmental Screening & Assessment

It is amazing when you really think about it. A tiny baby will become a fully grown and functioning adult in 21 years or less. Many people are out on their own by the age of 18 or 19. That is a lot of growth and development for a relatively short period of time, especially when you take into account that an average lifetime is 70 to 100 years. This rapid growth can present many problems along the way.

Shining Star Pediatrics provides developmental screenings and assessments from birth to adulthood. Well-child check-ups and monitoring milestones provide a guide for discovering problems before they fully form and offer a chance to prevent serious complications with early interventions.

During the routine screenings, not only will our pediatricians be looking for anything concerning but will provide parent education on how your child should be developing in between check-ups. If parents notice missed milestones, these concerns can be discussed at the well-child check-ups or even during an earlier appointment if needed.

Developmental screenings consist of brief tests for the child and/or a questionnaire completed by the parent. Questions will be asked about language, behavior, emotions, thinking, and movement to determine if more in-depth testing may be needed.
